Authors Note: This is a descriptive piece that uses a variety of figurative language that describes Lauren from the book Dark Secrets.
I slowly stroll through town, taking in all the memories both good and bad. Don’t recognize too many people, but then again, it’s been seven whole years since I’ve been here; seven whole years since my mother’s death. Tears start to sting the back of my eyes, but I just push those thoughts down, deep into the back of my brain to hopefully be forgotten. A few people start to stare at me; maybe they remember the little girl with light brown hair and light eyes that used to come down every summer to play with her two cousins (Holly and Nora). Yeah, right. All anyone ever knows me as is “the senator’s daughter”. I just try to float by them, hoping no one will make a scene or even worse, have more people stare.
Once I finally arrive at my aunt’s house I’m greeted by her along with Holly. Nora just hangs back and stares at me with those eyes as dark as a storm cloud. I tell myself to let it go, that it doesn’t mean anything, but I soon find out it does. The next couple of days are starting to get really creepy. Everything is getting tied in knots, and I have a terrible feeling someone is out to get me. Nobody believes me though, so I met with a therapist who believes this could be a “poltergeist”. That means it could be me, it could be my mind unconsciously controlling this strange activity. I am a monster. A monster that has no one in the world that believes her except for a pink glasses wearing, ghost hunting, therapist.
