Waka Waka essay

“You’re a good soldier, choosing your battles, pick yourself up and dust yourself up, get back in the saddle”. In “Waka Waka; This time for Africa” it talks about doing that making you feel good and your chance to achieve your goals. I chose this song because it is really easy to interpret the message that it’s trying to portray. In “Waka Waka; This Time for Africa” Shakira sends out the message of thinking about yourself and getting that one opportunity, your once in a life time chance.

Shakira’s song is the national song for the FIFA World Cup, it talks about playing a sport for the pride, and the love of it. People don’t care if you when or lose, they only care about how you can act during and after it. Everyone has that once in a life time experience, whether it’s in sports or not. That moment is what Sharkira is really singing about.

That moment for me was when we had a soccer tournament last year; it was “Mix n’ Match” which meant that people of all grades were mixed together. At first our team was really bad, but we kept trying. Each game we got a little bit better. Finally when it all came down, we got 3rd place. We were sad, but also very proud at how far we had gotten.

As you can see, this song can bring back memories for me and probably everybody else. That’s because Shakira really understands the feeling/feelings that people get. Whether good or bad, happy or sad, this song is talking about feelings. “Waka Waka; This Time for Africa” is a great song, not only because it sounds good, but because it connects with the audience.
